From 1920 to the present:
Season: 376 2/3 innings by Wilbur Wood of the Chicago White Sox in 1972.
Career: 5404 1/3 by Phil Niekro between 1964-1987.
If the ball is loose and live, a player can't deliberately kick it or bat it.
An RBI is a Run Batted In in Major League Baseball.RBIs are the number that is credited to a batter for batting in a baserunner that scores on his at-bat however this only applies if he hits the ball that remains a live ball and in play or if he ends up walking with the bases loaded. He'll also get an RBI if he's hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
i am the boos here you listen to me not him u will live
If a punter misses a kick it is a live ball. If the kicking team recovers, they turn the ball over on downs. (Assuming they are unable to recover the ball and covet.) If the defending team recovers it plays out the same way as a traditional fumble would.
I'm not for sure if this is going to answer your question completely, but I'll try. Modern Major League Baseball refers, to the game we are observing being played today. The pre-modern era , which is roughly dated from the 1850'S to about 1915, give or take a couple of years, was different in many aspects. One major one being pitchers tossed the ball underhand from a distance of only 50 feet. The great Cy Young pitched a large part of his career under those guidlines. And great hitters like Ty Cobb and Nap Lajoie also played during these times. I 've read articles , that state the ball used then was much softer and not as "lively" hence the "dead ball" era and the "live ball" era. There was no regulations on bats:size, shape, weight, etc. I 've seen pictures of bats used in those times, and some are flat , and one was shaped like something you would see in a game of jai alai. There has probably been a number of other changes , but those are just a few of the major ones, that can still be directly seen on the field today.
A pitched baseball that hits the ground is a live ball, therefore you may swing at it. If you miss, it is a strike. If you hit it foul, it is a foul ball. If you hit it fair, whatever play results is legal.
Some quick notes:Baseball uses a smaller, harder ball; Basketball uses a larger, softer, inflated oneBaseball goes 9 innings, which can last anywhere from an hour to 8 hours, or possibly more or less; basketball goes 48 minutes of live ball actionBasketball involves much running/jumping; baseball is generally a stand-still gameBasketball was invented after baseball
In baseball, fall ball is the sport of baseball that takes place in the fall. Where I live, fall is the less dominant season, so fall ball is not as serious as spring baseball
Yes. The only time it would not be live is if the batter, when swinging, hit the ball with his/her hands it would be a dead ball.
If the pitched ball four (issuing a walk) gets past the catcher, it is still a "live" ball, and the batter, and any other runners on base, may advance as far as they can. The catcher, or any other defensive player must retrieve the ball to keep it in play and prevent the batter or baserunners from advancing.
Many historians call the period of baseball starting in 1920 the Live Ball Era.
No, the base is concidered in-play and still a live ball. It is the same thing as the ball bouncing off a fielder or a rock.
In regular baseball rules, the ball is still live, even if it hits the ground first, until it hits the batter, then it becomes a "dead ball". If it never hits the batter, its still a live ball.
dead
Once the umpire calls "Play Ball," the ball is live until the umpire calls "Time Out," "Foul Ball," or any other reason where the ball becomes dead by rule. It's best to just assume the ball is always live.
If you swing and miss and the ball hits you, it is a strike and a live ball. If you swing and the bat makes contact with the ball and the ball hits you while you're in the batter's box, it is a foul ball and a dead ball.
live ball:as soon as a ball is given to a free-throw shooter or a thrower on a throw-in, it is live, but the game clock does not restart until the ball is alive
