I'm 48, have never been a runner but have taken it up recently because it's a faster way to get the workout done. When I was in college I ran a little for a fitness class--averaged 6 mph during a 4-6 mile run, (10 minutes per mile,) and thought I was doing well (I hated running, still am not a big fan but I like how I feel when I'm done!) Now I'm averaging closer to 9 minutes per mile (over a 3-4 mile run,) and I think I could probably do a single mile in 8 minutes or less. I'm kind of proud of myself. We ran on a track last night and I lapped a younger couple jogging together three times. :-)
Six minutes is a decent mile time for anyone.
