In a standard NHL hockey rink, there are 3 major types of lines. All of the lines run horizontally across the rink. A red line near the end of the rink running directly across the hockey net is called a goal line. There are two goal lines in a rink, one at each end. Closer to the middle of the rink but not at the middle is a blue line called the blue line. There are two blue lines, one at each side of the centre of the rink. The final line spans directly across the middle of the rink. It is called the centre line. It is thicker than the other lines and is colored red.
