the question is somewhat vague (teams are eliminated during the contest, it would seem, and what year are you talking about?), but it would seem that eight teams begin the series.

With the exception of the short-lived women"s league which functioned during War II, one of the teams was called the Mud Hens- a film was done on this- a League of their own- there is nothing remotely resembling professional distaff Baseball in the United States at present- one minor, minor exception, in exhibition ball all-round Athlete Mildred (Babe) Didriksen did play regular baseball for the Israelite House of David- a team tied to a religious sect, she was the only non-bearded member of the squad, being a Lady. The House of David defeated professional teams, albeit in exhibition games... again that is an exception. as a logical corrolary, no female players in the Hall of Fame.
