The Tippmann A-5 is popular partly because of it's H&K MP5 styling and easy to modify design. It therefore attracts many players and companies who wish to take that mil-sim look to the next level. There are now plenty of variants which add stocks, grips, clips, shrouds, sights, scopes and other mods that take the A-5 into any infinite number of military appearance configurations. One of these is the A-5 Stealth package. This gun is mechanically identical to the standard A-5 but adds:
Flatline Barrel- This barrel has a curved inner tube that gives the paintball backspin to reduce it's "drop" in flight and increase distance. It's important to know that this barrel has a reputation for being finicky and generally requires the use of premium paint (the curved tube spins the ball by using a coating of ultra fine sand which can shred cheap paint). It can work well if you take the time to adjust it, clean it and use good paint.
Off Gun Air Line: Air tube that goes to a tank on your back, lightening up the gun
Collapsible Stock: With the tank off the marker a stock helps balance the gun
It's worth noting that all these mods and more can very easily be added to a standard A-5 at any time, so you can pick and choose as you go if you prefer.

The X7 is an A5 with a different shell and a fake magazine.
They are internally the same. The A5 costs a whole lot less.
The tippmann x7 PHENOM however is far superior to the A5 in that it is spool valve and can use batteries for full auto and burst while still using mechanical semi, requiring no batteries.
The 98, A5 and X7 are internally the same. The X7 is literally an A5 with extra plastic, and the A5 is the 98 with a different body, a cyclone feed, a top cocking knob and tombstone instead of a steel hose. The A5 and X7 have the same barrel threads. The 98, 98c, alpha black, project salvo, and carver one have the same threads.
Its cheaper to buy an A5 than a 98 and then a cyclone feed, which makes it the "best" also it. Next would be the 98 because of the price. last would be th x7, which, without Egrip, is not very usefull.
The best tippmann however is the X7 phenom which is a spool valve marker that can run full auto electrically or semi auto mechanically. It is more accurate, efficient and quieter than any other tippman products.
The X7 is the A5 with extra plastic. It just costs more and is supposed to look better. They will function EXACTLY the same internally and mostly out. So the A5 is better because its less money for the same thing.
However the X7 Phenom Is much better than the A5 (or regular X7) with egrip, because it has a more accurate spool valve (vs hammer valve) a regulator and can go full auto with batteries, but switch to semi without.
The Phenom uses a spool valve, that has better accuracy and consistency. It also can work in semi-automatic if the battery dies, where the E-A5 will stop working. It also has no gas lines across the bottom, as is aesthetically much different.
On the new A-5 the following parts or systems have been redesigned or improved: Cyclone feed, Front Grip (larger), stock barrel, internal bore, receiver (lighter), tombstone connectors, sling mounts, hopper, gasline (now black).
The Tippman X7 is better quality faster rate of fire and is just an all around better gun.
