Maybe because they don't have 90 mph fastballs being thrown at their heads. Batting helmets came into use after a mlb played died in the 1920s after getting hit in the head with a fastball.
In mlb there are warning tracks and padded walls to keep outfielders from running into outfield wall and injuring themselves. Of course that doesn't prevent outfielders from running into each other. Someone has to call "I got it!"
Considering the history of injuries to pitchers getting line drives in the face, I could understand a pitcher wearing a helmet because they are so close to the batter.
The problem is most defensive players won't want to wear a helmet unless required by the rules. The only defensive players required to wear a face mask are catchers. Home plate umpires also wear face masks.
The objection from my daughter to wearing a helmet or mask while pitching softball is that no other pitchers wear them, she doesn't want to look silly, its uncomfortable, and 9 year old girls don't hit the ball hard enough to scare her yet.

∙ 9y agoBatters use helmets for protection against misdirected or wildly thrown pitched balls. Being "beaned" by a ball can result in serious head injury.
Catchers wear a protective mask and body shield to protect against pitched balls that go where they are not supposed to go and to protect against misplaced bat positioning.

∙ 14y agoThe reason why Major League Baseball players touch their helmets is because they use a substance called Pine tar, it's a sticky substance that looks kind of like mud in a way. Players stick it to their helmets so that when they go up to bat they have some to grab to put on their batting gloves because Pine tar is designed to help keep a better grip on a bat.
