To use it to scoop balls and catch high throws.
Runner on first is out. Runner on second is safe because he was tagged while standing on second base.
Well there are both gloves and mitts. These include: Catcher's mitt First basemen's mitt Outfielder's glove Infielder's glove Pitcher's glove And a ambidextrous glove So there are 6 types.
People say that a first base glove can only be used on first base but that's just not true. Victor Martinez uses a first base glove as a Catcher because he used to play both positions. It only has its name because it's designed to take harder throws, as the other fielders don't take in as many high velocity balls as catchers and first basemen do. Other than that, it's still a glove. There's no rule stating that only first basemen can wear one or Martinez would have been forced to change gloves a long time ago.
The most common glove size for high level 3rd basemen are typcially 11.75in to 12.25in, with 12inch most common. Also, 3rd basemen like h-webs and I-webs.
Once the ball is first touched on the fly by a player, runners can begin to advance. For example, if a line drive caroms off the glove of the second basemen and flies out to the right fielder who catches it on the fly, runners would only have to tag up until the ball hit the second basemen's glove.

He is the first basemen for the St. Louis Cardinals.
A first baseman's glove is larger and it has more padding that a fielder's glove. This is to get the most reach possible to catch wild throws. The padding is because the fielders are throwing the ball as hard as they can so that they can get the ball to first base before the batter reaches the base. Note: Gloves are used by for Fielders - Pitchers, Infielders, Outfielders because they have fingers like a glove. Mitts are used by Catchers and First Baseman positions because they don't have fingers, like mittens. If the first basemen has full possession of the ball before the collision and the ball comes loose as a result of a collision, it is an out. If the baserunner interferes with (collides with) the first basemen before the first basemen has made a play on the ball or while the first basemen is in the process of making a play on the ball, the runner is considered out for interference. Under no circumstance may a baserunner cause a collision with a fielder that is making a play on or has possession of the ball, unless it is the catcher. A baserunner can only be considered safe if the collision is at home plate with the catcher.
