Ballet is great exercise simply because it tones up all of your body. You use all of your muscles in Ballet.
There are many different exercises that can be used to strengthen your core. My first suggestion would be taking as many ballet classes you can. Basic ballet moves at the barre increase the muscles in your core used when dancing in the center. Another good method is to use ankle weights at the barre which increases the level or resistance. Aside from regular classes, I recommend working out at home or at the gym. Holding the plank position engages all of your muscles in your core along with other muscles in your body.
Ballet requires endurance, flexibility, and strength. The strength used for ballet is not like any other dance. the muscles you use are different, and you use every muscle and part of your body.
In class, ballet dancers will do exercises at the barre to improve certain areas of their technique, such as turnout, strength, endurance, balance, or the execution of a certain move. Outside of class, the number of training methods are vast and vary between region, company, and dancer. Many use elastic resistance bands to train, tone, and strengthen muscles. Training using weights and resistance machines is also common. Dancers will also stretch very frequently, as flexibility is a must in ballet.
Ballet helps strengthen your whole body and improves your awareness of it. You learn how to use your muscles and they become stronger too. You also become more flexible. Ballet also improves your rhythm and musicality. It may also help your confidence and self-esteem. It will also tone your body especially your abs. However, the more ballet you do the more you will feel these effects. For example, I do about 5 and 1/2 hours of dance a week, which is made up of two vocational classes (ballet) and two grade classes (ballet) as well as a modern dance class (about 45 minutes). I have found since I started doing this in September in a few months I have seen a huge change in my body, my legs are more muscular and my biceps are really toned as well as the fact that my abs are flat (! for me!) If you are female, pointe really makes a difference to your body as to keep yourself up there you use your whole body. Pointe helps strengthen your legs but makes a huge difference to your core also.

The exercise ball will strengthen different muscles depending on how you use it. It's probably most popular and frequently used for an abdominal work out.
You can strengthen your muscular system by using it. By lifting weights or running, you are using the muscles, and they are growing and toning. When you don't use your muscles, the are not as strong and you ware weaker as a whole.
