The archers initials must be engraved on each arrow while shooting USA Archery Tournaments, but not necessary for hunting or practice.
Archery is Bhutan's national sport; nearly every village has an archery range.
In individual events an archer is allowed up to 40 seconds to fire each arrow.
Bows were used nearly 25,000 years ago, mainly for war, but now for target and hunting.
Archery was in the Olympics in 1900, discontinued in 1924, and reintroduced in 1972 in the Munich Olympics.
The average field target for an archer is multi-colored.
Not all arrows are wood! Some are aluminum and most are carbon fiber, which is strong and light.
Archers can fire arrows up to 150mph *non-composite bow* at the targets 70 meters away.
Your dominant hand may not be the same side as your dominant eye; archers should shoot according to their dominant eye.
One thing t remember is that (perhaps ironically considering it was originally a weapon) archery is one of the safest sports you can play. Although the bows can be powerful and dangerous implements in the wrong circumstances, as long as you follow the safety rules responsibly it is very safe to play. It is also significantly harder to accidentally shoot anyone compared to using firearms.
The first thing the beginning archer should do is find someone who will teach them proper archery safety, technique and practices. The best place to find that person is at a local archery club, such as those which are certified by the U.S. Olympic Archery Committee (USA Archery) in the U.S.A or the British Grand National Archery Society in Great Britain. For those who are not interested in Olympic style archery, there are many other clubs, organizations and societies which concentrate on the other styles of archery, such as the English Field Archery Association (Great Britain) and the National Field Archery Association (U.S.A.), as well as the Society for Creative Anachronisms, Inc. (an International Society dedicated to Education, Research and Re-Creation of the Mediaeval Period of History). Most organizations and societies do require payment of dues and/or fees, so be prepared.
There aren't many types of bows, however there are many custom made bows which highly differ from the standard modern bows. The most common types are Short Bows and Long Bows as well as Cross Bows. The strongest ones of course are Cross Bows, as these are powered automatically, whereas in the other two you have to physically pull the arrow.
