Just before the line not on it or over it
Since forever!!
Basically, the runners start as a crowd, not as individuals in lanes with starting blocks. Everybody lines up at the start, and they are all released at once.
When running a race on a track, the runners can be either coming out of the blocks (as in the 100-meter dash through the 400-meter dash) or can stand up at the start line (as in all longer distances). That's the standing start.
Track and Field Facilities are areas just like any other in a stadium. These include restrooms, starting areas, bull pins, ect.
It is the shortest distance dash event in track and field and usually confided to indoor tracks. Indoor tracks are much smaller than outdoor tracks typically 160 - 200 meters with banked turns at the ends of it's oval shape. There is also a Hurdle event associated with this distance. Not unlike the famed 100 meter dash in outdoors, the 55 meter emphasises "block work". Block work is a term that summarizes all the steps included in and execution of a proper run out of starting blocks (a device at the starting line). The shorter the distance of a track event the more crucial it is to be the fastest out of the blocks.
YOU NEED YOUR LEGS AND RUNNING SNEAKERS YOU NEED A STARTING PEG WITH A GOOD GRIP Why do people wear trainers for the 100 metre sprint? Is this what u mean?
Field = The main group of riders. Also known as the "pack", "bunch", or"peloton." Field Sprint = A sprint to the finish amongst the main group of riders. Single-track = A path or trail wide enough for only one rider at a time.

From MY experience, and what my coaches said, buildups are accelerations. Start slow and build up to a full sprint.
