It is the shortest distance dash event in Track and Field and usually confided to indoor tracks. Indoor tracks are much smaller than outdoor tracks typically 160 - 200 meters with banked turns at the ends of it's oval shape. There is also a Hurdle event associated with this distance. Not unlike the famed 100 meter dash in outdoors, the 55 meter emphasises "block work". Block work is a term that summarizes all the steps included in and execution of a proper run out of starting blocks (a device at the starting line). The shorter the distance of a track event the more crucial it is to be the fastest out of the blocks.
