NXL mode on paintball markers is the mode used by the National X-ball League. When in NXL mode the marker fires semi automatic for the first 3 trigger pulls, after that the gun will fire Full-Automatic if the trigger is held. NXL is capped at 15 Balls Per Second.
Spyder Vs1's are Semi-auto uncapped and 3 round burst. With about 70 extra dollars you can upgrade to a Tadoo Board, which allows NPPL, NXL, Full Auto, 15 round semi, etc. If you want full auto go with an Ion or possibly an Epiphany.
a mod were they replace the weapons with paintball guns
NPPL mode is the paintball electric board setting which is allowed in NPPL tournaments. It is semi automatic (non ramping or full auto) which is capped (restricted) to 15 balls per second. This means that even if you are pulling the trigger 20 times a second, only 15 balls will shoot.

There is no place in the US that requires a permit/license for paintball markers.
Nearly everything. Paintball guns are fired through the use of air or CO2. Also they shoot only paint. bb Guns shoot pellets, and look completely different then most paintball guns.
