Point guard ... Or shooting guard ...
The best three-point shooter in Lakers history is often considered to be Kobe Bryant. During his 20-year career with the team, he made 1,827 three-pointers, showcasing his ability to score from long range. While other players like Shaquille O'Neal and more recently, players like Kentavious Caldwell-Pope have contributed to the team's three-point shooting, Bryant's volume and impact solidify his place at the top.
Generally, the point guard and small forward are the two best dribbers/shooters on the team.
Stephen Curry primarily plays as a point guard for the Golden State Warriors in the NBA. Known for his exceptional shooting skills and playmaking ability, he has revolutionized the game with his three-point shooting. Curry is also capable of playing as a shooting guard, depending on the team's lineup and strategy.
A basketball team consists of five players per team, a point guard, a shooting guard, a small forward, a power forward and a center.
J.R. Smith played as a shooting guard for the Denver Nuggets during his time with the team from 2006 to 2011. Known for his scoring ability and three-point shooting, he contributed significantly to the Nuggets' offense during his tenure. Smith was part of a dynamic backcourt alongside other players, helping the team reach the playoffs multiple times.
The two shorter players on a basketball team are typically the point guard and the shooting guard. The point guard, often the team's primary ball-handler, usually stands around 5'10" to 6'3". The shooting guard, who focuses on scoring and outside shooting, generally falls within a similar height range but can be slightly taller. These positions prioritize speed, agility, and skill over height.
There are 5 different positions on a basketball team. Point Guard, Shooting Guard, Small Forward, Power Forward, and Center
No. With the exception of Michael Jordan. Most point guards have the ball the majority of the time and therefore are more important. Just look at where the top notch (Chris Paul) guards are taken in the draft. I would say very close. Obviously, a team needs a point guard to run it. However, a team cannot survive without a main scorer, usually a shooting guard. For instance, how would the Sacramento Kings be without Kevin Martin? Not that great. Same goes for the Lakers and Kobe Bryant- they can't win without him. That's not saying point guards aren't important- they are needed very much. It's just a matter of what your team needs. If your teams shooting guard is unbelievable and can handle the ball, and the shooting guard is more important. If your team already has a decent shooting guard but has a phenomenal point guard, then the point guard is more important.
