How do pole vaults break?

pole vaulting poles can break but its how it breaks that truly shows if the pole was used effectively or ineffectively 1. poles will break if a persons using the pole weighs much heavier than the weight designated on the pole and applies to much stress or improper stress 2. pole vaulters should use a pole at or around their weight and never under their weight. 3. poles that were used properly but are broken, tend to break in two pieces. 4. if a pole snaps in more than two pieces, that pole would have most likely been under the weight of the athlete and or been used improperly by the athlete. 5. play it safe and use a pole that is designated for your weight and use proper techniques when bending the pole and vaulting into the pit 6. another way to insure proper pole usage is to make sure pole is not dented or fractured in any places... poles may break due to pre-existing wear and tear... CHECK ALL POLES BEFORE PRACTICE AND USE!!!

Why do pole vaulters run very fast before vaulting?

Without speed a vaulter would never get off the ground. The forward momentum built up in the run is transferred to the bend in the pole and in upward momentum used to clear the bar. Typically a pole vaulter possesses sprinters speed and are good all around athletes.

Where did pole vaulting originate?

Pole vaulting is an athletic event where a person uses a long, flexible pole (which today are usually made either of fiberglass or carbon fiber) as an aid to leap over a bar. Pole jumping competitions were known to the ancient Greeks, as well as the Cretans and Celts.Modern competitions probably began around 1850 in Germany, when it was added to the gymnastic exercises of the Turner by Johann C. F. GutsMuths and Frederich L. Jahn. The modern pole vaulting technique was developed in the United Statesat the end of the nineteenth century. In Great Britain, it was first practiced at the Caledonian Games. Initially, vaulting poles were made from stiff materials such as bamboo or aluminium; later, the introduction of flexible vaulting poles made from composites such as fiberglass or carbon fiber allowed vaulters to achieve new heights. For the source and more detailed information concerning this subject, click on the related links section indicated below.

Should a pole- vaulter compete in a running event such as the 400 meter right before vaulting?

That depends on the individual and the meet. If its a small meet and the athlete is well conditioned then i say go for it. I used to run the 400m hurdles in the mids of pole vaulting. I would say i set any records after that but i could generally do well as long as i had a little time to recover. During larger more important meets i would choose one or the other if they are close together in time.

Circumference Of pole vault pole?

Trick question: The pole used in pole vaulting may be any length. There are no restrictions as far as how long a pole can be or how much a pole can weigh. Poles are rated by the weight of the person using it. Looking at a site that sells poles they come in lengths from 7 feet to 16 feet.
