Karate is Japanese, is important in Japanease culture. If you are in karate or know it you would notice that most of the katas are japanese names.
because they are the four main katas that make up Wado Ryu karate.
Many of the katas are very old and were adapted from forms used in kung fu. The Pinan katas of Shorinryu were created by Ankou Itosu based on the higher level katas.
There are many more than 15 karate katas. Each style has their own set of katas and some do not overlap. In my style there are 20: 5 Kihon Kata 5 Pinan Kata 3 Bassai Kata 3 Naihanchi Kata 2 Kusanku Kata Chinto Gojushiho

Daniel Larusso got taught Shotokan Karate in the Karate Kid
The number of kata that are taught varies from style to style. My style has 18 kata you have to learn before black-belt testing. There are several others that can be learned after one becomes a black belt. the number of katas vary depending on which karate school you go to my school has 27 karate katas that you have to learn before you go to a black belt grading. there are a further 49 that you have to learn before you continue after black belt. some of them are made up by a number of instructors that belong to the same school and they make the kata specially for there school. there are also other kata that are known and used worldwide.
Yes, I want to learn Karate, but I want to do it in Japan and learn it from someone who practices the OLD Shotokan Katas, as Giching Funakoshi originally taught them. I want to go through, the training Funakoshi's students went through.
Tolga Katas was born on 1966-06-05.
Kata is the most basic building block of karate. It builds muscle, creates automatic responses and serves as the foundation for learning application. Once one has learned kata, you can start learning bunkai, the application of the kata, to combat situations.
Many Karateka practice the world over, in order from least advanced (the Kihon kata) to most advanced. The Heian forms, as you move up, and the Katas become more and more advanced. The entire striking curriculum of Karate, and some of the grappling, can be found in those Katas. However the Katas are not the whole of Karate; there are many grappling techniques, not included in the Kata Bunkai. Bunkai means "application." Also, the grappling in the authentic style of Shotokan, is all standup, there is absolutely no ground work outside hitting someone once you get them down. Moreover, the grappling techniques Gichin Funakoshi specifically requested from Dr. Kano, when the latter offered to teach him some Judo in exchange for some Karate, are all strictly defensive. Offensively, Shotokan's grappling is worthless, it can not be used in a sports competition. The reasons for that have to do with the fact that it is not designed for scoring points, or merely submitting, grappling in Karate is designed to incapacitate and prevent further attacks. The second reason has to do with the fact that applying Karate grappling is very difficult, it requires a lot of precise movement.
all karate students and teachers.
In my karate, we do a type of karate called Tang so doo. There is also taekwondo, which is more action while Tang So Doo is more defensive. There are forms and different types of defence rules and you learn the proper kicks like round kick, side kick and front snap kick. There is basically two sides to karate training, katas and kumite. Katas are a predefined sequence of movements against an imaginary opponent and kumite is the practice of individual moves. This can be done in pairs ippon and ju ippon kumite or by ones self. A lesson can also include sparing, self defence and other exercises
Stretch daily, and run 1-3 miles, 2-3 days a week. This will get your flexability up and get your stamina up. And be sure to practice your katas outside of class.
It could be included because there is a type of karate called "Freestyle Kata, is a type of karate Kata mixed up with gymnastics, check in youtube for some freestyle Katas. No! In order to be in the Olympics there have to be very specific rules. That goes against the basic premise of karate, defense without any rules. The minute that rules, any rules, are applied it moves from a martial art to a sport.
Karate is for all ages
No karate is not spread in all the nations but WKF is working on it
There are many differant founders of differant styles of karate. eg: GKR karate or IGK karate Sho-to-kan karate all have differant founders.
