You should be able to bench your own weight.
I'd say average 48 year old male can probably bench press his own body weight one time.
An average adult male should be able to bench press his own total body weight for at least three to five reps with proper form. Average adult females should be able to bench press about 75% the same way.
The average male, who doesn't work out, will not be able to bench press even close to his own body weight one time. Most guys I see in the gym these days do not bench press, and I would say even these guys would be lucky to get one rep at body weight... 200 pounds is out of the question for I would say 90% of these guys.. If you can bench 200 plus pounds, you are in the elite.
