To make it to the Olympics you must first make Olympic trials. The Olympic trials cut for the 200 meter backstroke is 2:17.99. Once the time to make it to Olympic trials has been achieved the top two finishers at trials are taken to the Olympics, so times are relative to the top two finishers. The current world record is 1:51.92
