You're not "supposed" to play with 10 players. However, if someone gets injured, and you don't want to substitute them, you can play with 10 players. (You only get 3 subs so if someone can play again in 3 minutes it would be a waste of a sub). Also, if someone gets two yellows (equalling a red card), you lose a player.
