Why do you have to be quicker in softball?

Softball has a smaller field. Distances between bases in Baseball is 90ft while in softball it's only 60 ft. The strength of the players don't change in softball even though the field is smaller. so imagine how quick a throw to first would be since everything is shorter. Imagine the speed of the ball coming at you from a shorter pitching distance and imagine how fast a batted ball would come to a fielder every time there is a hit. So every movement from base running, fielding and batting should be quicker
