What was David Hammons trying to communicate with his sculptures Higher Goals?
His intention was to encourage kids by telling them that there
are "higher goals" in life , like getting an education, than
wanting to become basketball stars, which is why he has the
basketball goals all the way at the top of the telephone poles.
Chances are that one in a million of kids can make the goals on
the installation, meaning that one in a million of kids will become
great basketball stars.
