From the research I've done, there is no definitive date as to when the first Footballer was paid. Best answer was Footballers started collecting money for playing sometime in the 1870's. Players would often switch from team to team enticed by higher wage offers or a one time fee for them to play on Cup bound teams. The Professional Footballers Association came along in 1907 and set up a structured wage for the players, so this could be considered their first "Regular Pay".
