The last FIFA World Cup took place in South Africa, and was won by Spain over tough opposition in the form of the Netherlands. There were no goals during normal time in the final, hosted at Soccer City, Johannesburg. But, when all looked as though the final would be decided with an exhilarating set of penalties, Andres Iniesta snatched victory for the Spanish side in the 116th minute.

The next World Cup is due to be hosted in Brazil in 2014, where Spain will undoubtedly try their utmost to retain this most famous of footballing trophies.
