Back checking is when the offensive team turns the puck over and makes the transition to defense by rushing back to the defensive zone and picking a man up to try to get the puck back.

Well im not sure what hockey background this person has but that is not what back checking is...

I am a former pro hockey player and what it is to back check is this...

A: Back Checking is rushing back to the defensive zone in response to an opposing team's attack. Players often try to 'rub up' behind the player with the puck to bother them. At the same time they try to hit the puck away with their stick.
