Most Field Hockey players are amateur only, and are thus not paid anything for the sport (many actually make a loss, when you consider the costs for gear, the services, the grounds, and transport). Some are reimbursed for their time, in the form of lessened fees or 'gifts' at the end of a season. Others may be sponsored or have scholarships, and not have to pay at all. Some are given their equipment or time for free. Those in professional leagues may make a few dollars per game, or a few hundred, or a few thousand, depending on the level and the skil of the player concerned.
