Lionel Conacher
The first Canadian athlete in football [not soccer or Rugby] was ... ta ta! A Canadian ATHLETE. Had you asked WHO [rather than what] you might have had a better answer. Use Google or Yahoo instead of being so lazy.
Lionel Pretoria Conacher was one of Canada's greatest athletes, excelling in football, hockey, boxing, lacrosse, baseball, and wrestling. He was a member of the Toronto Argonauts 1921 Grey Cup winning team and played hockey for several teams in the NHL between 1925-1937. He had a successful political career after his sports days. He was named Canada's greatest athlete for the first half of the 20th century and is a member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, Canadian Sports Hall of Fame, Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame, and the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Even though this question is very much opinion, I would have to say that the most athletic athlete ever is Brian Scalabrine. Brian Scalabrine played lacrosse football and basketball. And for somebody to play three professional sports and be the best player ever for three sports is nothing less than sensational. A little known fact is that the national lacrosse assocation had to change the rules for lacrosse, basketball, and football because Brian Scalabrine was dominating his competition too much.
