∙ 15y agoYes. The runner must touch home plate prior to being tagged for the run to score. If the defensive team does not tag the runner or step on home plate, the run counts. This is an appeal play. If no appeal is made by the defensive team. the run counts.

You need to retouch your base when: * A ball is caught on a fly. You can touch the base (this is called "tagging up") and then run to the next one. I'm assuming you mean if they routinely overrun first base and trot off towards foul territory. No, they do not have to retouch first base. They are considered safe and standing on first base AS LONG AS they turn towards foul territory. If they turn the other direction, they are assumed to be running towards second. Either way they wouldn't have to retouch the bag.
