A corner back is a defensive back. Plays on the defense team generally behind the defensive line and line backers. Corner backs generally play behind the linebackers and to the outside of the field, one on each side, and generally cover the offensive wide receivers.
They cover the wide reciever. They do this by either covering an area of the field and covering whoever comes in that area or they stay on one person and make sure that they dont catch the ball
The cornerback, or defensive corner linebacker has several assignments. First, to defend against the run; "end runs" "sweeps" other running plays that involve the outside areas of the line. Then, to defend against passing plays; again, "outside" ones, and, if necessary, "deep," if the pass receiver he's assigned to cover keeps going, deep. An unusual mixture of assets, skills, are required for this position: Toughness, hard-hitting ability, speed, decent height (pass defense) and weight, intelligence, in one package.
The 2 cornerbacks block the passes from the wide receivers either by swatting the ball away or by intercepting it.
well a corner back has that position to cover the receivers, defend against pass offense and make tackles
Primarily they will have a pass coverage assignment and will act as secondary run support after the pass threat is gone.
