∙ 9y agoIn a volleyball game, while a rally is going on the team that has possession of the ball has a maximum of three hits to get the ball over the net. The most common form of this is a bump then a set then a spike. The bump is when you close your arms and pass the ball to your setter and at that time the setter sets the ball with his fingers to somebody who is ready to spike the ball to hit the ground on the other side. The spike is also known as a kill. These three ways of hitting the ball do not have to be used in that order, that is just the most common way.

∙ 11y agoYour team has three touches of the ball to get it over the net to your opponent's side.
A typical situation starts with a "dig"- getting the ball in a high arch to the "setter", the "setter" hits the ball in a way so that the "hitter" can jump and hit the ball as hard as they can at the top of their jump, thus getting the ball over the net on the third touch.

∙ 6y agoYou can get three touches before the ball has to go over the net. A block does not count as a touch so someone can tip it in a block and there will still be three hits left.

A libero is a defensive player that plays only in the back row. Liberos are not allowed to serve, according to the USA rules, but they are allowed to hit from the back row. When a libero goes into or comes out of the game, it is not counted as a substitution. Also, liberos do not have to go in and come out for the same person every time.
