When the NFL was formed in 1920, the five Ohio teams were Canton, Akron, Cleveland, Dayton, and Columbus.

Prior to the development of the NFL, I believe the 5 first teams were Canton, Akron, Massillon, Shelby, and Marion, in the Ohio League around 1906 or so. ---- The five current NFL teams that originated in Ohio:

1) Cincinnati Bengals: began play as an expansion team in 1968.

2) Cleveland Browns: began play as an expansion team in 1999.

3) St. Louis Rams: began play as the Cleveland Rams in 1937.

4) Baltimore Ravens: began play as the Cleveland Browns in the NFL in 1950 and the AAFC in 1946.

5) Detroit Lions: began play as the Portsmouth Spartans in 1930.
