Walker was the 1981 Heisman runner up to Southern Cal running back Marcus Allen. He also finished third in 1980, behind South Carolina running back George Rogers and Pitt defensive lineman Hugh Green.

Tony Dorsett from the University of Pittsburgh won the Heisman Trophy in 1976, Pitt won the NCAA championship in 1976, and Dorsett was a member of the Dallas Cowboys that won Super Bowl XII. Marcus Allen, who attended the University of Southern California, won the Heisman Trophy in 1981, was on the USC team that won the 1978 NCAA championship, and he was a member of the Los Angeles Raiders that won Super Bowl XVIII in 1984. With the victory of the New Orleans Saints in Super Bowl LXIV, Reggie Bush became the third player to win a Super Bowl, a Heisman Trophy and a National Championship. He won the Super Bowl with the New Orleans Saints in 2010, a Heisman Trophy at USC in 2005 and two National Championships at USC in 2004 & 2003, though one was later vacated. He also won a high school championship. And now add Charles Woodson in 2011. Heisman and national championship with Michigan and a Super Bowl ring with Green Bay.
