there are many ways,

if a club really needs players they will host open trials. Put your name down and then go along.

Another way is if you play for a non-league club(sunday league) you could be offered a trial during pre-season.

The final way is to get a transfer from a club that already plays league football

I'd say Spring time to summer. fall, just practice and winter, practice inside to get better. also don't go outside if it's 50 degrees or less
