To beat a deak, you must watch both the player and the puck. (Many, however, would say to always watch the only the puck. Watching a little bit of the player may help you anticipate which direction they are heading. Try whatever you think works best). You must not make a move until they do. If you do happen to fall for it, you must be quick and power slide to the other side of the crease; preferably towards the opposite post as the diagonal motion will get you in proper position faster than a lateral motion (and will cover the short side).
