good question.
if you're talking about carrying the ball, i can help you a lot.
if your a new back and want some fan support or just want to gain rank on your team by running somebody over, follow these steps. they might sound easy to one, but just wait till you get on the field. football is a sport where if you get cocky, you will either lose and/or be humiliated. this is a long answer, but please take the time to read this. you are not the only one who wants to know this, and it can help you a hell of a lot.
step 1: size up
figure out who you want to hit, making sure there is no defenders to the sides of you.
step 2: the leap
depending on how nimble your feet are, you may want to take a smaller or greater leap. the leap is when you jump to plant your foot in order to deliver the most power as possible to the jackass who thinks he can keep you from scoring a td. if youre a bigger guy, plan on taking about a 1 yard leap. you probably wont want to try running somebody over if youre on the small side, but if you must, make youre leap smaller to hopefully confuse the defender for a split second as he will expect you to get closer to him and slow down. you must get the timing just right, because if you successfully run over a defender you WILL slow down greatly. bad timing will either make you break your spine, or make you un-ready for the next hit that is a guarantee.
step 3: the thrust
this is just about the most important part about trucking a defender. IMMEDIATELY after performing the leap, in one motion, lower your shoulder pads to about a foot away from your knee(the defender WILL have his facemask on the ball) making sure that the shoulder you lower is the opposite side you are holding the ball in to dramatically decrease the chance of a fumble. make sure your head is ever so slightly tilted twoards the side you are carrying the football in so you don't snap your windpipe open. put your head as low as the defenders chest, or if he is bent down make sure your shoulderpad is under your enemies helmet ready to lift them off you sending them to a hell of humiliation and pain. drive all your bodyweight and leg power into them and listen to them give out a feminine grunt which can entertain you during the 1/4th of a second that this happens. then with your free arm (the one that isn't carrying the ball), give the defenders facemask one last push so he is officially out of the play. Also, NEVER stop pumping your legs, keep them moving for maximum yardage!
step 4: soul's fate
ok. one defender exicuted. what now? pick your head back up so that you can see if you're free for a touchdown.Protect the ball with both hands now in case youre about to be struck by a linebacker or safety or maybe a cornerback.
if you see many people around you, put your wheels on and book it! And NEVER stop pumping your legs.
congratulations, now you know how to be the ultimate running back! but don't go on the field just after reading this thinking youre the best on the field; this usually takes weeks' practice.
hope i helped at least .5%. And by the way, build up leg strength for greater power! Get your legs to look like tree trunks! good luck trucking! = )
I am a big hitter on my football team and have been playing for about 4 years. Laying a big hit on someone might sound hard but is very easy. First, keep you're head up and bowl you're neck and use you legs after first contact and lung out of you're shoes and whip you're arms around his legs or butt so that you take his feet out from under him and at the last second slip you're head to the side of his body and take him down. Use youre shoulder pads.
