∙ 12y agoI had SOLs this week and i had 2 in 1 day. Doing sports helps u study after u get all the excess energy out of ur system, that is why i do both. I do swimming to get my energy out and then when i get home i sit down and i finish my homework in 10 minutes because nothing distracts me.

∙ 12y agoIdeally, you should have a well-rounded curriculum, where studying is balanced by gym and sports. That said, I do not believe there is such a thing as studying too much. If you think that giving something your best effort is bad, you probably are not going to get terribly far in life.

It's certainly arguable that schools shouldn't offer sports at all and should instead focus on academics. That said, intramural sports (those where teams from different schools compete) do have some beneficial aspects. But at a sixth grade level, exactly which sports they are should be carefully thought out, since people at that age range are not yet fully developed physically, and it's vital to not overtax the developing body in such a way that would damage it. If the choice is between "no sports at all" and "all the sports played at the high school level", then the former is definitely the better choice.
