∙ 11y agoCathy Astrid Salome, popularly known as Cathy Freeman, was born in 1973 in Slade Point Mackay, Queensland, Australia. In 1996, at the age of 23, she went to the Olympics which was held in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. In 2000, she lit the Olympic flame in Sydney, Australia. But she became the first ever Aborignal Commonwealth Games Gold Medal winner, at the age of 16, at the age of 16 at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, Canada.

She competed in the 400 meter run and the 4x400 meter relay events. She did not qualify for the finals of the 400 meter run and she finished 7th with the Australian team in the 4x400 meter relay.

cathy freeman was nineteen years old when she went to the Olympics in spain in 1992. she also won gold in an school athletics carnival when she was only eight years old. by Evie
Cathy Freeman was one the last torch bearers in the 2000 Olympics opening ceremony in Sydney, Australia. Australia is her home country. I'm sure officials wanted to showcase an Aborijane who did good and show that the world. Freeman went on to win a Gold Medal later on in the Olympics.
Her school teacher told her one day after Cathy's first race that she was really good at running. Cathy went into competitive running and has ran ever since.
Cathy Freeman first participated at the 1990 Auckland Commonwealth Games, where at the ripe age of 16 she was a member of the victorious 4x100m relay team. With the victory, she became the first Aboriginal Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist.
