Sparky Anderson was the first manager to lead teams from both the NL and AL to World Series championships (1975 and 1976 with the Cincinnati Reds, and 1984 with the Detroit Tigers).

Tony La Russa also did it with the Oakland Athletics (1989) and the St. Louis Cardinals (2006 and 2011).
