Pointe shoes began to change during the romantic era. Before that, a dancer could only go on relavae. The usuall silk slipper would be padded with cotton wool and years

Later they were stiffened with glue to help support the feet. Imagine a pointe shoe with out thr glue!! And we think we get bad bunnyons!!

What are ballet shoes?

Ballet shoes are either slippers for practising or pointe shoes. Which, after a girl goes through pre-pointe possibly for one year, they can get pointe shoes then perform pointe! Guys do where ballet slippers but they do not go on pointe

You are on demi pointe and want pointe shoes this is your sixth year of ballet and you really want to try pointe shoes should you buy them?

If you must, but seventh year of ballet is better imo.

What year were pointe shoes invented?

the pointe shoe was invented in 1820 by Charles digelot

What percentage of girls that start ballet get to pointe?

It takes a long time to get to be strong enough for a girl to start pointe. It took me ten years. This past fall was my first year on pointe; i didn't even where my pointe shoes for my recital because i am still not strong enough. it takes time and patience.

What is the future of the ballet shoe?

Long explantion of pointe shoe history (skip this if you already know about pointe shoes ) I haven't heard anything about ballet shoes (canvas or leather soft shoes) changing besides companies maybe finding better (lighter and more durable) materials to make them out of. Pointe shoes on the other hand are consistently changing. Originally, pointe shoes used to be made out of wood and very hard materials. This was okay at the beginning of pointe work just because dancers didn't have the feet and strength dancers have today. Over time though, the pointe shoe has become relatively soft compared to its ancestors. Now pointe shoes are made of layers of fabric and paste. This allows the pointe shoe to be softer and more flexible.New advances in pointe shoe technologyGaynor MindenRecently new advances in pointe shoes include a flexible plastic shank introduced by the pointe shoe company Gaynor Minden. They advertise this new shank as long lasting and a pointe shoe that it has the feeling of an already broken shank (leather sole that supports the foot). I personally know a girl who has amazing feet and has worn both Russians and Gaynor Minden pointe shoes. She said that Gaynor's really require a lot of foot strength via the flexible shank, versus the Russians which have support, but die easily.NikeThe most interesting advancement in pointe shoes (and probably why you wrote this question) is Nike's concept idea of a sport pointe shoe. Released last year, this concept sports a black pointe shoe made of some durable, yet flexible material that can supposedly last way longer than normal pointe shoes. As i said earlier, this is a CONCEPT. As we have seen this year, Nike has already started to dabble in the dance field, by introducing their "Studio Wrap" shoes. If Nike indeed decides to pursue this concept, I think there will a lot of resistance. Ballet is know as a graceful and classical sport/art form, and bringing in a modren looking shoe might upset people. In addition, most pointe shoe companies have been making pointe shoes for around a hundred years. This has lead to multiple versions of pointe shoes and extensive knowledge of the pointe shoe. Unless Nike gets some very knowledgeable pointe shoe manufactories on its side, I think no dancer will take the product seriously.

When taking pre-pointe do u use pointe shoes or is it mainly just technice and ankle strengthening?

Depending on the studio you're at, pre-pointe is either preparing your body physically for pointe using regular shoes, or using Demi Pointe shoes. Pointe Prep is to strenghten your ankles, and body. It is the time for teachers to corect sickleing, how you hold yourself, ETC. It usally takes a year to go through pointe prep, (I know because I've been through it myself, I am on pointe) but somtimes it takes longer or shorter. Usually if you haven't gone through your big growthspirt yet you may not get your pointe shoes as soon as you like becasue the teachers don't want you to go through one and end up hurting yourself whenyou are on pointe

Why would you read that you shouldn't buy pointe shoes unless you go to pointe class but you bought them to practice before lessons start next year?

that's what I'm going to do anyway. i think its a great way to get a head start on pointe. i mean look on the Internet or buy a book, or watch a pointe instructional movie before your pointe class. you'll just be even more prepared for your class.

When were pointe shoes first used?

The year was 1832. The ballerina was Marie Taglioni. The ballet was "La Sylphide." It was the first time a female ballerina danced an entire ballet on pointe. (Note: There may have been others before her, but this is the first recorded experience on a dancer performing on pointe for an entire ballet).

Would you wear pointe shoes if you were in pre-pointe?

No. Pre-Pointe is a class that helps to strengthen and ready your feet for pointe shoes. In my class, we would do a series of relevés and plies at the bar. Then we would move center and go around the room doing different stations (heel rocks, one leg relevés, relevés, bourées, inverted walks, abs, etc. Then at the end we would come together and do sotés. It was so much fun and I'm glad I took it as a summer class because now I get to start pointe this year! You will be happy you took it too.

What is good padding for big toes for pointe shoes?

I am a dancer and I do pointe at least 2 times a week. I do practise for an hour or 2 everyday and have been doing pointe for over a year now. i have found that the "ouch-pouches" from dance wear shops are the most effective as I have never had a blister and they are very comfortable to wear.

How long after you start ballet can you dance Demi pointe?

If you are talking about demi pointe shoes (otherwise known at soft blocks) your teacher may recommend you to wear them. I recently got my demi pointe shoes and have been taking ballet classes for just over a year (now at grade 4). Mine were very uncomfortable at first, but you just have to break them in, just like you would for a regular pointe shoe. If in any doubt talk to you ballet teacher, they could give you some advice about whether you should need soft blocks. Also if you are taking RAD intermediate exams, I believe it is compulsory to have demi pointe shoes. Not completely sure though, i would double check. Good luck and hope this was some help to you:)

What do I do about my dance teachers being racist and not letting me get en pointe?

talk to your teacher about it, he/she may not let you on en pointe because of age or how strong you are. i am i 14 year old dancer and i just got on en pointe at 12.5 and it hurt my feet alot because my body wasnt use to it so cheer up you will get pointe shoes sooner or later. if you still think your teacher is being racist toward you then change to a different school. good luck!
