I am a dancer and I do pointe at least 2 times a week. I do practise for an hour or 2 everyday and have been doing pointe for over a year now. i have found that the "ouch-pouches" from dance wear shops are the most effective as I have never had a blister and they are very comfortable to wear.

What is pointe in ballet?

It means to go on pointe shoes or tip-toes.

What is Pointe who started this ballet trend?

Pointe is the art of dancing on the tip of your toes. It is done by using Pointe shoes, which have Pointe ribbons which support the dancers ankles and also the shoes have plaster of Paris in the toes to suppourt her feet. En Pointe takes years of work (as you can guess, I haven't mastered this yet!) ;)

What is a demi-pointe?

Demi Pointe is a releve in flat shoes (Not Pointe Shoes). A releve is when you lift your heels and all that you are standing on is the balls of your feet and the bottoms of your toes. Hope that helps! :]

What are pointe shoes?

Pointe shoes (aka toe shoes) are shoes that we ballerinas wear to enhance our performance. Contrary to popular opinion, Pointe shoes are not made out of wood, but of paper mache. The shoes give the illusion that we are on our toes, while in reality the shoes are supporting our weight and our toes are being cushioned by padding.Pointe shoes are not comfortable, though, and many blisters, bunions, and foot injuries come from dancing "en Pointe." To be able to dance on Pointe you must have had several years of dance and very strong ankles.

How do you go on pointe without pointe shoes?

Going on pointe without specially made pointe shoes can seriously damage your toes; it can easily break them, dislocate them and cause growth defects.Although, if you just want to try, you can pull yourself up onto pointe using a pull-up bar- but DO NOT put any weight on your toes.
