Grade 2 ballet is like a grade in music - the person is in grade two until they take their grade two exam, and then they can move up to grade three. There are several different examination boards for ballet, and the syllabus steps required for the grades will vary from board to board.
Elementary ballet is a grade in ballet, It ranges from Pre-primary, primary, grade 1 , Grade 2, Grade 3, Grade 4, Grade 5. They are the Junior years. Then it goes Pre-Elementary/Intermediate foundation, Elementary/Intermediate, Advanced Foundation, Advanced Foundation 1, Advanced Foundation 2. These are the senior years.
For sure grade 3 ballet syllabus is more harder than grade 2 . Here are some syllabus Plie (first position) Plie 2* ,Ground plie (second position) Repeat ,(third position ) repeat .
The ballet grades are (in order from low to high) - Pre-Syllabus - Pre-School - Pre-Primary - Primary - Grade 1 - Grade 2 - Grade 3 - Grade 4 - Grade 5 - Grade 6 - Grade 7 - Intermediate-Foundation - Intermediate - Advanced 1 - Advanced 2 (after grade 5, you can skip straight to Intermediate-Foundation, if ready for pointe)
See I did ballet from the ages of 2-11 then stopped my lessons, after completing a grade 4 exam. I then carried on doing tap, modern and ballroom dancing. I wish to take up ballet again. What standard should I get lessons at? Go back to grade 5, or because of all my other experience go higher?

you can start ballet at any age there are classes for 2 year olds all the way up yo adult. It is a common misconception that you have to be young to start ballet, i started when i was 13 and now im en pointe and as good as my friends how have been doing it since they were four. so please dont be put off by your age ballet is wonderful no matter how old you are !! :)
6 to 8 years old!!
There are 8 ballet grades but there is also pointe work in grade 5 and up (although some start in grade 4), so if some one asks you, you could say that there are 8 or 12 because when you are in grade 5 up you have the poite work exams as well. The Pointe work levels are: Intermediate Foundation Intermediate Advanced Foundation Advanced 1 Advanced 2
No, you do grade 6 as well before moving onto inter-foundation and intermediate, then advanced 1 and advanced 2 =)

Well I am 12 (nearly 13) and am grade 5. However, I have had quite a few years of training. Grading is not done based on age, but on ability. Ask your teacher, Depending on how confident you feel Grade 3, 4 or even 5 if you are really dedicated and have at least 2 lessons a week. Anyway good luck!!! :)
