It all depends where the color guard or dance team is from. Some states in the USA call these activities, others call them sports.
Yes, competitive dance is definitely a sport. It holds all the elements that "normal" sports have: teams, competition, long practices, hard work, dedication, trophies, judges (which are like referees in any other sport) its not free to participate in, and traveling is involved. So competitive dancing is definitely a sport.
Yes, both cheerleading and dance are competitive sports, but not always. Both disciplines have their non-competitve applications as well.

The perception of dance as a sport varies widely among individuals and cultures. While some surveys suggest that a significant portion of the population views dance as a sport, estimates can range from 30% to over 70%, depending on the demographic and context. Factors influencing this belief include personal experiences with dance, exposure to competitive dance events, and the definition of what constitutes a sport. Overall, the belief that dance qualifies as a sport continues to evolve and spark debate.

Dance may be considered both a performing art and a sport. But only competitive dance (as with the similar form of gymnastics) might be considered an actual sport. For example, figure skating is a sport which is essentially athletic dancing. Dance shares attributes with traditional sports, such as physical development, coordination, practicing, and defined rules.
Technically, it is not classified as one, but it should be because it is harder than anything else.
Yes dance is a sport ballroom dance is a type of dance so yes it is a sport
a competitive sport is usually a team effort, a lifetime is about what your doing for the sport while you're in it
YES!!! Technically, the trapeze is competitive because if you have a trapeze competition, you have to be competitive and have a good routine. What about dance? Dance is a sport! So yes, trapeze is a sport. A sport is an activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively. Sports commonly refer to activities where the physical capabilities of the competitor are the sole or primary determiner of the outcome (winning or losing), but the term is also used to include activities such as mind sports (a common name for some card games and board games with little to no element of chance) and motor sports where mental acuity or equipment quality are major factors. That was from Wikipedia.com - I didn't make that up. Now that I've prove my point, let me just say, TRAPEZE IS A SPORT!!!!!no - it is defined as an 'aerial art' ie is considered an performance art form along with dance etc. Also a 'circus art'. It is not considered a sport like gymnastics, however I would say the static trapeze combines dance and gymnastic/acrobatics and flying trapeze is more acrobatic. Sport tends to be competitive - trapeze is never competitive.
Personally, I don't think that folk dance is a sport.
