Ballet helps you with musicality, discipline, flexibility, muscle strength, and attention to detail.
Ballet dancers dont have to be thin. However in order to gain the flexibility and physical strength for ballet, you do have to be very fit.

The National Ballet School of Canada is a great ballet academy that is by audition only. Itis very prestigious and government-sponsered, I believe. It is harder to get in when you are older, like most ballet academies. You need to have significantly good range turnout form the hip, arched feet, musicality, and flexibility and extension.
Yes. Flexibility is the ability to move a joint through it's complete range of movement and the degree of flexibility is specific to each joint. Flexibility is very important to avoid injuries during activities. Also, a lot of things ballet dancers do require flexibility. You can become better at everything from arabesques to leaps with more flexibility. However you don't necessarily need to be flexible to start ballet. Improving flexibility is relatively easy compared to improving strength or extension or turnout.
Well, you have to be good and take as many classes as you can without overdoing it. Make sure you stretch every day and work on your flexibility
Ballet is great for your body! it strengthens your leg muscles and really helps your balance, posture, and your flexibility. Depending on your personality, you might have a great time dancing like i do and forget that your even making a change in your body. -DanceQueenLeanne<3
Yes. Flexibility is absolutely essential to dancing ballet well. It is impossible to do most of the steps in ballet without being much more flexible than the average person. A good ballet teacher makes sure to have their students do many stretches in every lesson so that their students will become more and more flexible. The more flexible a ballet dancer is, the more capable he or she is of doing the more difficult steps, such as grands ronds de jambes and penché. Flexibility can also making such steps seem easy, giving the illusion of being nearly weightless.
It improves strength and flexibility, which you need for any other type of dance.
