Enrico Cecchetti and his wife opened a ballet school in London in 1918. This helped establish Ballet in Britain. Dame Marie Rambert a former student of the Cecchetti founded the Ballet Club, the UK's first ballet troop that still exist today.
Not sure off the top of my head, but the major ballet companies are; The Bolshoi, The Kirov, The Moscow Ballet, and The St Petersburg Ballet. Often countries such as Russia have many many little companies that may exist and are supported by the small towns they are in.
The first ballets were performed about 500 years ago in Italy and France. They were usually exciting shows of dancing and singing performed for the royal families and their guests. The first real ballet on record was staged in the year 1581. The grand performance was calledLe Ballet Comique de la Reine, meaning "The Comic Ballet of the Queen." Catherine de Medici, the French queen, arranged the ballet performance to celebrate a wedding. The ballet started at 10PM and lasted for 5 hours. About 10,000 guests were in attendance.
Some basic ballet dance positions are first, second, fourth, and fifth. Yes, third position does exist but it is rarely used. Here is a video that shows a lot about ballet. See attached link.
