Western Carolina University.
The first game between Appalachian State and Western Carolina was played in 1932, and the two teams have played annually since 1946.
The game is called "The Battle for the Old Mountain Jug," after a moonshine jug painted gold that is given as a trophy to the winning team. A Mountaineer (Appalachian State's mascot) and a Catamount (Western Carolina's mascot) are painted on opposite sides of the jug.
Appalachian leads the rivalry with a win/loss record of 56-18, with one tie.
