For an offside infraction to occur a player must be in an offside position at the moment it is touched by a team-mate. If the goal keeper is from the other team then the player is not guilty of an offside infraction.

The player passing the ball is not the one who might be called offside. If anything, the player receiving the pass might be called offside. However, the strict conditions of Law 11 must be met. So the short answer is no, a player cannot be called offside for passing the ball from behind the goalkeeper.

Law 11 says (paraphrased):

A player will be called offside if, at the time the ball was last played by a teammate, he was nearer the opponent's goal line than the ball, the second-last opponent, and the halfway line, and subsequently becomes involved in play by playing the ball, interfering with an opponent, of gaining an advantage from being in that position, except directly following a goal kick, corner kick, or throw-in by either team.

Note that the term "goalkeeper" (or similar) is not used in the description of offside. The 'keeper is usually, but not always, the last defender. Sometimes he is the second-last defender, and occasionally he is nowhere near the goal and is not considered part of the offside determination. Additionally, the law states that the the player can be called offside upon receiving the ball, not passing it. Therefore, if a person passing the ball DID get called offside, the infraction will have happened before the pass was made, when the player first interfered with play.

If a player is standing in the offside position but not receiving ball from the other player who is carrying the ball will be declared offside by the referee in the football?

To be offside, you do not have to touch it. If you interfere with an opponent (e.g. possibly lunge at him) or gain an advantage by being there (e.g. recover a deflection off the keeper or goalpost) are also enough.

In soccer is it offside or offsides?

Its called Offside, or being in an offside position. Being in an offside position, in and of itself, is not a foul. The foul occurs when the ball is PLAYED to the PERSON in an offside position. You can be "passive", not involved in the play, in an offside position and there is no foul.

When an opposite soccer player touches the ball back is that an off side in soccer?

No off sides in soccer is when an attacking player, is passed the ball and there are not at least two opponents between him or her and the goal line. Usually, these are the goalkeeper and one other defender, but not necessarily.

How do you get a offsides in soccer?

You are in an "off-side position" if you are: 1. On on the opposing team's half of the field and... 2. Neither one of these things is between you and the opposing team's goal: (1) two opposing players (one is normally the goalkeeper) or (2) the ball.However.....being in an off-side position does not make you off-side (and therefore the referee will not call an off-side penalty on you) until you are involved in an active play. A very good explanation of the concepts of off-side position and off-side can be found here: http://www.soccerhelp.com/Soccer_Tips_Dictionary_Terms_O.shtml#offside_rule_detailed That site also includes a good explanation of the exceptions to the off-side rule and since I cannot come up with better wording, here is a direct quote from the site: "Special Cases Where Offside Is Not Called: A player is not offside if he receives the ball directly from a goal kick, throw-in or corner kick, even if he is in an offside position; however, once touched, the offside rule starts and if it is then played to a player in an "offside position", offside may be called. (Note that the offside rule does apply on "free kicks"). A player is also not offside if he passes the ball backward, even if doing so leaves him in an "offside position". However, if he is in an offside position & the ball is played back to him (e.g., a wall pass), then he can be called offside." == == == == Previous answers.....There must be a defender between the attacking player and the goal keeper when the attacking player recieves the ball, otherwise he/she is offside There must be a defender between the attacking player and the goal keeper when the attacking player recieves the ball, otherwise he/she is offside no there must be two players (one of whom is normally the goalkeeper) between the attacker and the goal line WHEN THE BALL IS PLAYED, and if the attacker is in the opponent's half of the field

Were is the off side line in rugby when a player is tackled also if the player laid with his or her arms reached out towards their scrum half.?

In the tackle scenarion. When a ruck, maul, scrum or lineout forms, a player who is offside and is retiring as required by Law remains offside even when the opposing team wins possession and the ruck, maul, scrum or lineout has ended. The player is put onside by retiring behind the applicable offside line. No other action of the offside player and no action of that player's team mates can put the offside player onside. If the player remains offside the player can be put onside only by the action of the opposing team. There are two such actions: An Opponent runs 5 metres with ball. When an opponent carrying the ball has run 5 metres, the offside player is put onside. An offside player is not put onside when an opponent passes the ball. Even if the opponents pass the ball several times, their action does not put the offside player onside. An Opponent kicks. When an opponent kicks the ball, the offside player is put onside. In soccer what does the referee do when a player is offside?

Being in the offside position is not an offence. Only when the off side player touches the ball while offside. Then the ref will call the ball dead and a free kick will tack place.

If you are stood behind the goal line can you be in an offside position?

A player who is behind the ball cannot be in an offside position. A player that is in an offside position at the moment of the kick would be guilty of an offense if he runs back to collect a pass, even if the pass was backward.

Can you be off side on a throw in?

You can not be guilty of an offside offense when directly receiving a throw-in, goal kick, or corner kick. This does not include any plays stemming from these restarts. Once the ball is controlled by anyone, normal offside rules apply once again.

How many yards away should you be when doing the kick off?

The receiving team must be at least 10 yards away from the ball's line of scrimmage when the ball is kicked. If they are not, a penalty is assessed for being offside.

What is difference between offbreak and out swing?

An offbreak will deviate off the pitch towards the offside (assuming a right handed batsman) whereas outswing means it moves towards off through the air.

What is the off side in rugby?

Offside is a very difficult rule in rugby union as it is changing constantly in play and both sets of players (Team in possession and the team defending) can be offside. To make it easier, i will use examples (during which Team 1 will always be in possession and Team 2 will be defending). Also, during all of this, the player is only offside if the player is active (ie. interfering in any way with any player or the ball) 1st, a player from team1 is offside is he is in front of the ball. The only exception to this rule is if the team1 kicks the ball and that player retreats. If he procedes to chase the ball he is offside. As soon as the kicker is in front of him, he is back onside. A player from team2 cannot be offside if the ball is in open play. 2nd, If a ruck or maul forms or it is a scrum, a player from team2 is offside is he is further forward that than the ruck, maul or scrum. A player from team 1 is offside is he is further forward that the ball (but only if he is not part of the ruck, maul or scrum). 3rd In the case of a throw-in, an imaginary line goes across the pitch from where the throw is taken from. All players in the line out must be 1m away from that line, on there own side and cannot cross that line until one team has the ball secured (a lineout usually has 7 players per team and that includes the scrum half who stands just beside the line out to receive the ball if whoever catches the ball decides to pass the ball out of the lineout). Any player who is not part of the lineout must be 10 metres away and cannot interfere with play until the ball has been secured and has passed out of the lineout. Finally, an execption to a player on team1 if the ball is kicked from a restart. If the player is in front of the kicker but still inside the deadball area, when the ball is kicked, then he is still onside.
