This race is usually about 3.1 miles

They're different races for different grades. 3k (1.8 miles), 5k (3.1 miles) there is also a 10k (6.2 miles).

Middle school usually does 3k's, high school does 5k's, and college really you get to decide what race fits you best.

you're going to have to be a little more specific. are you talking about races or other distances? do you mean how long a season is? which school?

Middle school: 3k races, i don't know how long that usually is

High school: 5k races (3.1 miles), average finish time is 16-18 minutes, but it varies

College: 10k races, i don't know that either

For races, in high school most cross country courses are 5k, or 3.1 miles. In college, some women's go up to 8k and some men's to 10k. However, this depends on the conference and sometimes the individual meet.
