Players need this to focus on the game, and to block out noises coming from the crowd, (crowd shouting, other players winding you up). Mistakes are often to do with concentration e.g. taking your eyes of the ball, not watching the opposing team. Most players practise in a loud and noisey environment that has got a lots of distractions so that they are used to blocking out noises and distractions when it comes to playing in a tournament or in front of a crowd.

When the sportsman is not concentrating whilst performing then their balance of the game is off. That means their not putting their all in to the game.

It is easy for an athlete to be distracted from tasks, common distractions include: making mistakes, the weather, the opponent(s) and even their own coach, shouting out tips and instructions and such.

concentration is key to any competitive sport. good concentration gives athletes a competitive edge on their opponents. it is what some athletes refer to as "being in the zone". with out it athletes are simply "going through the motions".

Concentration helps when you play in sports, because without it you could result in perhaps bad aiming or hurting another player (including yourself).
