I think it is the 1906 Olympic Games held in Athens, Greece. It is not officially recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as it is the first and only mid-cycle Intercalated Games to be held in Athens, Greece where some traditons were embraced.
The first modern Olympic games, were in Athens Greece in the year 1896...prior to that the games were held in Greece, and featured only Greek male athletes
They were held in Olympia, ancient Greece, hence the name for the event, The Olympics. This is also why Greece held the first modern Olympics, why their athletes always come out first in the parade, and why the national anthem of Greece is played at all closing ceremonies.
Yes. Women are allowed in the Modern Olympic Games, both as participants, and as spectators. Women were banned from the Ancient Olympic Games held in Greece, (both as participating athletes and as spectators), but, women are certainly allowed in the Modern Olympic Games.
The Olympic games were first held in Greece around 776B.C. in honor of Zeus. note that these were not at all like the ones today. In fact, at first the Olympics was only 1 day!
The first Olympic Games were held in Ancient Greece, in the year 776 B.C. in a place called Olympia. They were held every four years. They were dedicated to the Gods and, during the Olympic Games, allwars-disputes-fighting came to a halt. Only Greek city states and tribes were allowed to take place in the games, such as Athenians, Macedonians, Spartans, Corinthians, Thebans and others. The Olympic games came to a stop byt he Byzantine Emperors in the 5th century A.D. as pagan. The modern Olympic games started again in 1896 in Greece.
Rome has hosted the Olympic Games only once. That was in 1960.
