in swimming just like other sports the object is to win. You receive points or a "score" depending on the place you receive generally 1st gets 20 point and then the points gradually go down in value until you reach the person in 8th place who generally gets 1 point

REMEMBER, IT IS IMPORTANT TO BE CAREFUL WITH SWIMMING! HAVE A FRIEND OR AND INSTRUCTOR WATCH OVER YOU AS YOU SWIM TO HELP YOU IF YOU NEED HELP. SWIMMING, ESPECIALLY YOUR FIRST SEVERAL TIMES IS HAZARDOUS AND YOU NEED SURVEILLANCE IN CASE YOU START DROWNING. NEVER SWIM ALONE!! There are different strokes of swimming; backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke, and freestyle being the most popular.

To free style swim, there are several different motions going on. Your legs are kicking behind you, knees straight. You should be able to propel yourself forward with this kicking motion.

Next, your arms are going to scoop water one at a time. You have to take one arm, bring it over your head and into the water, pushing water back as you circle it around to your side. As you circle it back, the other arm repeats the same motion as it comes out of the water, reaches in front, and circles to your side, pushing water along with it.

Your head is to stay in the water, and whenever you have to breath, take your head out sideways, laying it on an arm as your other arm paddles in the motion mentioned above and your legs kick. When you're done taking a breath, put your head back into the water.

I recommend you take swim lessons to help you out. They work really well! :) have fun
