'Snow hardener' does exactly what it says: It hardens snow. Well really, it makes snow more compact. When you are skiing, you dont want soft snow otherwise that will stop your skis by swamping them, and causing lots of friction. What you want is compact snow, so that your skis can go on top of the snow rather than sink in. Snow hardener is just a catalyst for making the snow more compact so that people skiing can ski on the slopes.
Downhill skiing is the fastest as you can ski up to 100mph! The second fastest is Super Giant Slalom (Super G), which is basically straight down almost.

Snow that has been pressed solid is commonly referred to as "snow compact" or "packed snow." This occurs when snow is compressed by weight, such as from footsteps, vehicles, or natural settling. Packed snow is denser and more stable than loose snow, making it suitable for activities like skiing or snowboarding.
