Africans are renowned for having great endurance... as seen in long distance running. Football being 90 minutes playing time requires alot of endurance as players run up to 12 miles per game. I think it is because they like to run naturally and love to kick balls around. I think it is one of the only forms of entertainment the African's have.
Like the deprived favella kids playing on the streets of Rio, many African kids live in poor areas where football is one of the few fun things they can afford to do. Kids growing up in Ghana or Cameroon probably don't things like MTV and PlayStations to tempt them away from football.
